Kristen Johnston (Executive Director & Co-Founder) is a two-time Emmy Award-winning Actress and Author. Johnston has had a long and celebrated career as an actress in television, film, and theater. But it was when she got sober over six years ago, that her life changed forever. It is all chronicled in her New York Times Best-selling memoir ”GUTS: The Endless Follies and Tiny Triumphs of a Giant Disaster”.
She is also featured prominently in “The Anonymous People,” an unforgettable, powerful documentary about the state of recovery in America today. Today she can be seen in TV Land’s hit series ‘THE EXES’.
However, her greatest passion is her efforts to help young people struggling with addiction, which is why 5 years ago she Co-Founded SLAM. She travels all over the U.S. speaking to addicts of all ages, and was recently honored in Washington, D.C. with this years’ “Voice of Recovery” award, presented by the esteemed organization Faces & Voices of Recovery.
She will not stop until NYC gets its own sober high school.
